The programme for the Daniel O’Connell Summer School 2016 has just been announced.
The Summer School will take place on Friday 26th in the Library in Cahersiveen and on Saturday 27th August in Derrynane House, Caherdaniel, Co Kerry.
Professor Maurice Bric, Director of the School, said that he was very pleased that Dr Mary MacAleese, former President of Ireland, would deliver this year’s Daniel O’Connell lecture.
Other well known speakers who will contribute to the Summer School include Professor John Horgan, former Press Ombudsman and journalist who will speak about Daniel O’Connell and the press and Jane Urquhart, the distinguished Canadian writer and author of ‘Night Stages’, a novel set against the background of the Rás Tailteann.
This year’s Summer School will explore the links between Kerry and the 1916 Rising, including the contributions of Mortimer O’Connell, Fionán Lynch and Tom Clifford.
The distinguished Kerry footballer, Jack O’Shea will speak about his career.
